Sheriff’s Office seeking suspect who used counterfeit U.S. currency

Deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking one suspect and are looking to question two other individuals in relation to the purchase of items from Paxville store with counterfeit U.S. currency. According to reports, a black SUV arrived about noon Tuesday at the Short Trip Convenience Store in Paxville, and three individuals exited the vehicle. Timothy McFadden, 46, of Summerton, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Born April 19, 1971, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Rose Marie Tindal McFadden and the late Jessie John McFadden. Survivors include three sons, Melquon McFadden of Columbia and Jaquan McFadden and Timothy McFadden Jr., both of Florence; his mother, Rose Marie Tindal McFadden of the home; a sister, Bristica (Sammie) Cooper of Manning; and a host of other relatives and friends. Saints receive two spots on North-South All-Star team

Clarendon Hall’s Ben Corbett and Dylan Way have received invitations to play in the North-South 8-man All-Star Game, which will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral Academy in Charleston. Senior Defensive End Ben Corbett led the Saints in tackles with 171 overall for the 2017 season. He had six sacks on the year, along with one pass interception, four fumble recoveries and caused three fumbles. Senior Quarterback and Linebacker Dylan Way rushed for 865 yards on 98 carries this. season. He also rushed for 12 touchdowns and three two-point conversions. McLeod Health Clarendon announced Wednesday the promotion of Deborah D. Locklair to chief human resources officer. Locklair most recently served as regional administrator for McLeod Health, with oversight of McLeod Health Clarendon, McLeod Health Cheraw and McLeod Health Dillon. Board certified as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, she is also a senior vice president for the organization. U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) participated in a Tax Reform Town Hall Debate alongside Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) on CNN Tuesday night, taking a wide variety of questions from Americans on different components of the Senate Tax Reform package. In his closing argument, Scott spoke directly to the American people, letting them know that “our focus is on you, and that’s where it should be.”

JV Lady Swampcats defeat Pinewood Prep

The Laurence Manning Academy junior varsity Lady Swampcats improved to 1-1 on the season by defeating Pinewood Prep 33-20 on Tuesday night after trailing 7-2 at the end of the first quarter. Breanna Boykin had nine points to lead all scorers, followed by Peyton Davis with six points and Bryce Erickson with five. The team plays Monday at Trinity-Byrnes in Florence.

District 2 to hold special meeting Thursday

Clarendon man airlifted after head-on wreck

A Clarendon man was flown by helicopter to Palmetto Health Richland late Wednesday evening after a head-on wreck near Lake Marion. Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol said that Trey Holliday was reportedly driving a 1998 GMC pickup truck southboud on S.C. 260 near Lake Shore Drive when he was hit head on by a 47-year-old man driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck northbound. “There was traffic stopped in front of the driver of the Silverado,” said Collins. “The driver of the Silverado was unable to stop in time, so he swerved to avoid the traffic and… Read the rest

The Laurence Manning Academy junior varsity Lady Swampcats fell Monday night to Thomas Sumter Academy by a final score of 27-24. Carrie Rickenbaker led the team in scoring with eight points. The team is now 0-1.

The Clarendon Hall junior varsity Lady Saints’ basketball team fell 22-20 to Williamsburg Academy on Tuesday in overtime. Bailey Corbett led the Lady Saints with seven points and three rebounds. Amberly Way added six points and six rebounds.

Lady Swampcats fall to Pinewood Prep

Brooke Bennett led the scoring for the Lady Swampcats on Tuesday night as the varsity ladies’ basketball team fell to Pinewood Prep 69-30. Overall, Bennett had 11 points. Olivia Coker had 10 points, and Abbie Patrick added nine. The Lady Swampcats are now 0-2 on the season and have two more games to round out the week on Friday and Saturday.

The Clarendon Hall varsity girls’ basketball team fell to Williamsburg Academy by a score of 54-23 on Tuesday night. Mallory McIntosh led the Lady Saints with eight points and six rebounds. Whitney Avins and Sydney Wells had five points each.
