The Manning High School girls' tennis team defeated Wade Hampton High School on Wednesday in the first round of the South Carolina 3-A State Playoffs. The final score was 5-2.
Marie Joyner, Lorena Sanchez and Katie Feagin all won their singles matches with scores of 7-5 and 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4 and 6-3 and 6-1, respectively.
Grace Lemmon and Kailyn Vicente won their doubles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, while Shanyia Gamble and Marie Joyner won theirs by a score of 8-2.
The Monarchs will travel next week to the No. 1-seeded Waccamaw for the second round of the playoffs. The date is still to be determined.
