Monarchs earn No. 2 spot in tennis playoffs

The Manning High School girls' tennis team traveled Tuesday to Hanahan High School to decided seeding in AAA Region 7. The two teams split wins in their first two meetings, which forced a third match to determine second and third place behind Bishop England. The Manning Monarchs were victorious after coming back from being down 3-2 after the top five singles matches. Singles winners included Marie Joyner, 6-4 (L), 6-2 (W) and 10-2 (W); Lorena Sanchez, 7-6 (L), 6-4 (W) and 10-3 (W). Doubles winners included Shanyia Gamble and Marie Joyner, 7-5 (W) and 6-4 (W); and Kailyn Vicente and Grayce Lemmon, 6-1 (W) and 6-1 (W). The first round on the South Carolina High School League Playoffs will be held Oct. 18. Manning High is the No. 2 team and will host the No. 3 team from Region 8.
