Bobby Dante’ Pringle Jr.

Bobby Dante’ Pringle Jr. died on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
He was a son of the late Bobby Pringle Sr. and Mary Alice McDonald Pringle.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Anthony Mouzon officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of his cousin and her husband, Annette and Kenneth Cantey, 1315 Herod Drive in Manning.
These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

WorkKeys testing free through Sept. 30

The ACT WorkKeys tests are changing. Through Sept. 30, current WorkKeys assessments in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics and Locating Information will be given at no charge starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the F.E. DuBose Center at Central Carolina Technical College in Manning. Beginning Oct. 1, a new battery of tests will be offered, and a fee is likely. So, free WorkKeys testing ends Sept. 30. Pearl Fryar group presents CCTC scholarships

Two Central Carolina Technical College students have received scholarships thanks to the Friends of Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden, who have “generously supported the Central Carolina Technical College Foundation Scholarship Program since 2008,” according to a release.
Scholarship awards are designated for two Lee County students, with a preference given to one student from Lee Central High School and one student from Robert E. Lee Academy. This year’s recipients are Jesus Diaz, who is enrolled in CCTC’s Welding program, and Cody Watson, who is entering the college’s Natural Resources Management program.

Pilot Club donates supplies to Head Start

The Clarendon Pilot Club presented Brain Minder supplies to the Paxville Head Start school recently. These supplies, which go toward the club’s goal of providing brain safety to young children, included Beanie Babies, decorative hats and a program flow chart. Head Start Family Service Director Patara Turner accepted the supplies from Pilot Club members JoAnn Corbett and Margaret Robertson.

Honda Accord keyed at apartment complex

A man living at Meadowfield Apartments in Summerton told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office that someone keyed his 1993 Honda Accord while it was parked in the complex’s parking lot, causing about $500 in damages, sometime between 12 a.m. July 9 and 8:30 a.m. July 11.

On Saturday, July 29, the Lake Marion Artisans Gallery and the Clarendon School District 1 Community Resource Center held a Health Fair for the residents of Summerton and surrounding areas.
This was our first endeavor with a Health Fair, and we were absolutely amazed at the turnout. Even though it was a muggy, rainy day, we had more than 100 people – adults and children – plus representatives from more than 20 area organizations dedicated to the health and well-being of our community.

James Timothy Mays Sr.

James “Jimmy” Timothy Mays Sr., 71, husband of Carolyn Britton Mays, died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Lhoman C. Mays Sr. and Hallie V. Ardis McLeod. He was a member of New Start Community Church of the Nazarene in Manning. He retired from Santee Print Works after 33 years of service. He was a past volunteer at Bethel Station No. 13 of the Sumter County Fire Department and was a past member of the Summerton Hunting Club.

Adult Education to begin fall classes Aug. 22

Clarendon County Adult Education will begin day program offerings for the 2017-18 school year on Aug. 22. Registration will be at 8:30 a.m. at the F.E. DuBose Career Center at Central Carolina Technical College in Manning. Student orientation will be held 8:30 a.m. Aug. 23. Both sessions are required of all students.
