ALCOLU – Bobbie Jo Carter Reaves, 78, wife of Lee Edmondson Reaves Sr., died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

Born June 17, 1939, in Pamplico, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah Hill Carter and the late Tyra Parvenu Lee Carter. She was a retired law partner with Land, Parker and Reaves Law Firm and a retired Clarendon County Drug Court Justice. She was a Rotarian, a Civitan and a member of the Clarendon County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, the Clarendon Christian Learning Center Board, Sumter Women’s Forum and the Back Porch Players. She was an active member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for 44 years.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years of Alcolu; two sons, “Lee” Edmondson Reaves Jr. of Alcolu and James Hill “Jim” Reaves (Stacey) of Gable; two sisters, Dorothy Ard (Charlton) and Violet Moody (Michael), both of Manning; five grandchildren, Wade Edmondson Reaves, Stephen Martin Reaves, McKenzie Elizabeth Morehouse, Jacob Carter Reaves and Madison Fuller Reaves; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Carter, Jimmie Carter, Johnnie Carter and Joseph Carter; and a sister, Pearle Carter Benton.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at New Harmony Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Gordon K. Reed officiating. Burial will follow in DuRant-New Harmony Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church and other times at the home, 12453 N. Brewington Road in Alcolu.
