Elizabeth Ann Wilkes Taylor, 98, widow of Reese Joye Taylor, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Covenant Place in Sumter.

Born Feb. 14, 1919, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Alexander Wilkes and Pearl Sanders Wilkes. She was a graduate of Draughan’s Business School in Columbia and worked as a bookkeeper for Alderman Lumber Company and Taylor Building Supply. She was a devoted wife, mother and a strong Christian lady. She had a very deep love for Manning First Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday school class where she was a long-time member.

She is survived by two sons, Reese Joel “Joey” Taylor (Joyce) and Richard Dean Taylor (Ellen), both of Manning; a brother, Clyde Alexander Wilkes II of Manning; four grandchildren, Brent Taylor (Cindy), Matt Taylor (Joanne), Drs. Ryan Taylor (Ginna) and Beth Giddens (Robbie); and six great grandchildren, Haley, Emma, Kateland, Caroline, Carson and McKenzie.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Elizabeth Taylor; four brothers, Claude, Robert, James and William “Billy”; and her beloved sister, Grace.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Manning First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Ernie Broadway, Ward Gatlin, Mike Hodge, Larry Williamson, Paul Young and David Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will include members of the T.E.L. Sunday school class and their husbands.

Visitation will held an hour prior to services in the Heritage Room of Manning First Baptist Church, and other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Ellen Taylor, 1254 Tanglewood Drive in Manning.
