Public schools in Clarendon County start Thursday, but students will get a long weekend as they are out for the total solar eclipse on Monday. Clarendon School District 1 interim Superintendent Barbara Ragin-Champagne said Tuesday that students will be free from school Monday, but that teachers would "engage in professional development activities from 8 to 11:30 a.m." Likewise, Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent John Tindal said teachers would have an in-school work day for half of the day Monday. District 3 has made the same plans, officials say.
