A 29-year-old Estill man will serve 35 years in prison for shooting at a police officer and striking him four times. A jury found Malcolm Orr guilty Wednesday of attempted murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The suspect received maximum sentences under the law, according to Solicitor Duffie Stone. Reports indicate that Estill Police officer Quincy Smith was responding Jan. 1, 2016, to a call about someone snatching groceries from customers, when he spotted Orr walking from the store. Smith ordered the suspect to stop, and Orr instead fired at the officer eight times. Smith received two broken bones in his arm, a severed vein in his neck and a bullet wound to his upper torso. A body camera the officer had purchased himself served as the main evidence against Orr.
