CCFD investigating cause of fire that destroyed home

The Clarendon County Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a two-story home on Telegraph Road late Sunday evening.

Battalion Chief Jay Bruner said Friday night that engines were called about 8:26 p.m. Sunday to the fire, which was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

"The fire did appear to start in an attached garage; it quickly extended into the entire living space," said Bruner. "This was very unfortunate for the family. This was a two-story house, and my understanding was the second story had a bonus-room type area that was unfinished."

Bruner said the home was occupied by an older couple.

"I don't believe they had any children living at home," he said. "We did call the Red Cross to come and assist them."

Bruner said the cause is currently listed as "undetermined," he noted.

"There's no suspicion with it at all," he said. "Because of the extent of the damage, the cause is not known at this time."
