The South Carolina Disaster Recovery Office has announced the placement of eight more Clarendon County families into new or renovated homes after the October 2015 flood. Overall, the office has announced the placement of 294 families and the release of 743 award letters for those who have applied for assistance due to the unprecedented flooding that caused more than $5 million in damages to the Clarendon County area. Families receiving housing assistance completed the application and award process through SCDRO. Their previous homes were severely damaged by the October 2015 Storm. Award letters notify citizens that they have been accepted into the program and list the next steps for the citizen to move forward. It is up to the resident to decide if he or she will participate in the program. SCDRO protects the personal information of citizens and will release only the county and zip code for households served by the program. The households awarded in the most recent announcement are located in Alcolu, Manning, Pinewood and Summerton. Other families awarded were located in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Orangeburg, Sumter and Williamsburg counties. The goal of SCDRO is to serve as many citizens as possible. SCDRO intends to repair or replace about 2,100 homes affected by the October 2015 Storm. The program is designed to assist Low to Moderate income households and serve South Carolina’s most vulnerable population. The highest priority is given to households with documented damage, households with persons who are 65 years old or older, persons with documented disabilities, or households with children five years old or younger.
