A 20-year-old Columbia man was charged about 4:50 p.m. July 17 with shoplifting, enhancement, after allegedly taking chicken wings from the deli section of a store in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway without paying for them.
According to reports from the Manning Police Department, Breshay Fay Isaac of 100 Ripplemyer Ave., No. 366, in Columbia, had left the store with four other individuals, and a traffic stop was performed on the vehicle in which Isaac was riding. The suspect had prior convictions for shoplifting, leading to the enhancement, which is a felony.

Only 7 years old and a second-grade student at Laurence Manning Academy, Charleston Hodge has been making waves in the dance and pageant worlds.
In the last week of June, the youngster was named the 2017 Face of Inspire, which held a national dance competition to find its representative.
“It was a three-part process,” said Dixie Elliott, owner and instructor at Carolina Dance Academy, where Charleston has danced for five years. “The Inspire National Dance Competition came to Manning, she entered its photogenic contest. There were two parts, and she won the 12 and under category in March.”

Clarendon County launched its first salvo last week against a settlement agreement between the state Department of Revenue and Farmers Telephone Cooperative that could see the county pay back more than $400,000 in what have been judged to be exempt taxes.
“We have filed with the Administrative Law Court a case to contest the agreement,” said County Administrator David Epperson, who said last week that Sumter and Williamsburg counties had also joined in the effort, along with Florence school districts. “More will likely join in later. We have also invited the Clarendon school districts to be involved as well.”

Central Carolina Technical College held its third School Counselor Summer Institute from July 17 to 21, welcoming nearly 15 area school guidance counselors onto its campus to learn about its 50-plus programs of study and student support services the college offers to residents in Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw and Sumter counties.
President Dr. Michael Mikota welcomed the counselors to the college. The counselors spent one week receiving in-depth descriptions and tours of each academic program and service offered by the college.

A 38-year-old Manning man has pleaded guilty in New York state court to criminal tax fraud, a felony in that state.
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced Tuesday that Hizam Daginah of 1143 McDowell St. in Manning was caught transporting contraband cigarettes in Buffalo, and that he must make more than $19,000 in restitution to the state as part of his plea agreement.

The National Weather Service is calling for more isolated to scattered thunderstorms possible for this afternoon and evening. Cloud-to-ground lightning will be the main threat from any storm that develops. There is a small chance that one or two of the storms might become severe with damaging wind gusts.

Col. Webb hangs out at the airport almost every day. He comes out, drinks a cup of coffee, gives his opinion on what is right and wrong with the world, and then heads back home.
Loren Webb was an Army aviator. He flew in Korea, Germany, Vietnam and Iran. With all that experience he doesn’t tell many tales about his flying career. He even won an Air Medal but doesn’t say much.
