James Sieber “Jim” Wellock, 89, husband of Betty Jo Edgin Wellock, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

Born April 29, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late Howard Wellock and the late Edna Sieber Wellock. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a Ham Radio Operator in Germany. He was a member of several racing associations in Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania and he loved to fly airplanes. He was a retired engineer with Alltel Telecommunications Company.

He is survived by his wife of more than 66 years of Manning; a special daughter and son, Kate and Gary Martin of Manning; and three special grandchildren, who he was proud for them to call him Papa Jim, Gamble Martin of Columbia, Amelia McManus (Hunter) of Lugoff and Lewis Martin of Manning.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Derrick James Wellock; and his sister, Ethel Wellock Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Manning United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kem Thomas officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.
