Central Carolina Technical College held its third School Counselor Summer Institute from July 17 to 21, welcoming nearly 15 area school guidance counselors onto its campus to learn about its 50-plus programs of study and student support services the college offers to residents in Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw and Sumter counties.

President Dr. Michael Mikota welcomed the counselors to the college. The counselors spent one week receiving in-depth descriptions and tours of each academic program and service offered by the college.

The first two days of the Institute focused on Student Support Services, General Education, Dual Enrollment and Early College, Library Resources and the Freshman Focus Center. Counselors took tours of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center where they learned about Industrial and Engineering Technology.

They also visited the Health Sciences Center and received a firsthand view of what CCTC students experience on a daily basis. The last three days consisted of touring the Environmental and Natural Resources Center, the Legal Studies Center and the Human Services building.

The institute ended with essential information about Career Services, Financial Aid, Testing Services and Admissions. Counselors also had the opportunity to learn about Central Carolina Scholars, which provides the first two years at CCTC tuition-free for high school graduates in Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties.
