Dr. Henry Plowden "Mutt" Bozard

Dr. Henry Plowden "Mutt" Bozard, 74, husband of Lynne Hudson Bozard, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at McLeod Health Clarendon.

Born July 29, 1942, in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Dr. Asbury Cecil Bozard and Ashton Plowden Bozard. He was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Wofford College and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He served as a vaptain in the U.S. Army and was a retired dentist with 42 years of practice. He was a battalion chief and former chairman of the Fire Board of the Clarendon County Fire Department, a member of the Manning Fire Department, the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, the Pee Dee Firefighters’ Association, and was a state director of the National Volunteer Fire Council. He was inducted into the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Hall of Fame. He was on the Board of Directors at The Bank of Clarendon; a member of the Mullet Club; a Rotarian, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; a member of the Eastern South Carolina Mustang Club; and a member of Manning United Methodist Church.

Survivors besides his wife of 50 years of Manning include a son, Henry Plowden “Bo” Bozard Jr. (Amy) of Manning; a daughter, Ashton Ellis Bozard of Columbia; and two grandsons, Robert Hugh Bozard and James Hudson Bozard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Asbury Cecil Bozard Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at Manning United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kem Thomas, the Rev. Dr. James C. Adams and the Rev. Debra Quilling Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Carter Helm Jones, James Edward Gamble III, William Columbus Coffey Jr., Thomas Finley Coffey, Humphrey Dillon Smith, Dr. Robert Lee Ridgeway, Oscar Gerald Robertson, Frances Ann Richbourg, Dr. Clarence Epps Coker Jr. and James Barry Ham.

Honorary pallbearers will include the Clarendon County Fire Department, the Manning Fire Department, all firefighters, the Mullet Club, the Eastern South Carolina Mustang Club, the Bank of Clarendon Board of Directors, Dennis Norman Craven, Russell McInnis Harrelson, Joseph Valerious Warren Jr. and Robert Edward Briggs Jr.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Stephens Funeral Home, and other times at the home, 1270 Hickory Ridge Circle in Manning.
