Herrin takes 2nd runner-up at Miss SC Teen Pageant

Miss Clarendon Teen 2017 Julia Herrin took 2nd runner-up at the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant on Friday night in Columbia. She is the fifth young woman to hold the Miss Clarendon title and the highest placement at state thus far. Miss Clarendon Teen Julia Herrin was named Miss Teen Congeniality during the Miss SC Teen Pageant held Friday night in Columbia. She is currently in the Top 5, and we are awaiting the announcement of placements.

Miss Clarendon Teen 2017 Julia Herrin has made the Top 17 in the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant, which is currently ongoing in Columbia. Herrin won two preliminary awards this week, including talent and evening gown.


Household goods valued at $500 stolen from Spigner Road home

A washer, dryer, black gas heater, pool stick, airlift gun and an FTC internet box, altogether valued at $500, were reportedly stolen from a home in the 1900 block of Spigner Road between 8 p.m. June 16 and 12:40 p.m. June 18, according to reports from the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. The victim reported that someone had allegedly kicked the back door in to gain entrance to the home.

SANTEE – Evelyn Nix Pugh, 88, beloved wife of Leslie L. Pugh Jr., died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Magnolias of Santee.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Elloree United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Barry A. Allen presiding. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Lake City man charged with 3rd degree burglary, forgery after allegedly breaking into business, cashing stolen check

A 29-year-old Lake City man was arrested about 3 p.m. June 17 and charged with third-degree burglary, first offense, and forgery of a value less than $10,000.
According to reports from the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, Gary Elbert Welch of 1589 Floyd Drive in Lake City, allegedly entered a store in the county and cashed a check for $80 written on an account of an undisclosed victim. The clerk working in the store told deputies that she knows the victim and that he was out of town for the weekend. She said she called the victim, who said the subject … Read the rest


Runners seek to bridge the gap between veterans, civilians

David Dinerman just finished Ranger school and Micah Petersen was just commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant. Both serve in the military as infantry officers. The two are just beginning their careers in the service and want to form a stronger relationship between veterans and civilians.
Petersen had an idea four years ago that he took to his friend, Dinerman.
They searched for a cause for the idea and found an article in TIME saying that Houston Texas, was rated the No. 1 place for military veterans to retire.

Collar named principal of Scott’s Branch

Robert Collar has been named the principal of Scott’s Branch Middle High School for the 2017-18 school year, according to a release from Clarendon School District t1. He currently serves as principal of the state’s Department of Juvenile Justice High School in Turbeville.

Brown named principal of St. Paul Elementary School

Scott’s Branch High School graduate Joaquin Brown has been named the principal of St. Paul Elementary School, according to a release from Clarendon School District 1. Brown previously served as assistant principal in the Fairfield County School District. He has experience at the elementary and secondary levels, and “has implemented several successful programs and initiatives throughout his administrative tenure that proved to be beneficial to students,” the release states.

Last week, at 4:31 p.m. Monday, I was sitting in a beach chair with my feet mashed ever so gently in the sand as the sun baked my face, and I sipped on a cold Natural Light.

East Clarendon graduate sues District 3 board, superintendent, principal

Clarendon School District 3’s school board, superintendent and high school principal and guidance counselor have found themselves in the midst of a legal action pertaining to an issue with the graduating Class of 2016.
The family of co-valedictorian Flury Wilson, who graduated June 3, 2016, has filed suit against the board, Superintendent Connie Dennis and East Clarendon High School Principal Jason Cook and Guidance Counselor Sharon DuRant, accusing the defendants of wrongfully labeling Wilson as the co-valedictorian of her graduating class and marking her placement as No. 2 in the class on her permanent records.
