Edith Juanita Cain Ramsey Waiters, 80, wife of Robert “Bob” Lee Waiters, died Monday, May 29, 2017, at her home.
Born Nov. 18, 1936, in Jordan, she was a daughter of the late Edmond Cain and Mary Ellison Cain.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Society Hill AME Church in Manning, with the Rev. Mary F. Rhodes, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemeter.
The family will receive friends at the home, 105 Breedin St. in Manning.
Services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.


Library to host production of ‘Three Little Pigs’

The Harvin Clarendon County Library and Porkchop Productions will hold “The Three Little Pigs” at 2 p.m. June 15 at the library, 215 N. Brooks St. in Manning. Clyburn to hold Town Hall meeting June 1 in Sumter

U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, who represents Clarendon County in the the 6th Congressional District, will have a town hall meeting with the theme “The Fight for American Values: A Must Win,” from 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 at Black River Electric Cooperative, 1121 N. Pike West in Sumter.
This meeting will focus on accessible, affordable quality health care; reforming the tax code; infrastructure development; energy costs; and what we must do to address these and other challenges facing our country.

Ard named High School Sports Report Class A Softball Coach of the Year

East Clarendon softball Coach Lisa Ard knew that her Lady Wolverines had a good chance of winning the program’s second state title when they took to the field for their first games this spring.
But she couldn’t just rely on the potential she saw in the team, which had some players who helped the Lady Wolverines win the Class A State Championship in 2013.

King Team to hold Relay for Life yard sale, fish fry

The King Team for Clarendon County Relay for Life will hold its annual yard sale and fish fry from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the home of Thomas and Paulette King, 7917 Greeleyville Highway in Manning. They will have great deals on clothing, housewares and other items. The team will also sell fish and grits for $5, fish sandwiches for $4, lemonade for $1 and Loretta’s famous dip and chips for $2.50.

Hatfield named High School Sports Report SCISA Baseball Coach of the Year

Laurence Manning Academy baseball Coach Barry Hatfield is always quick to point to his players’ successes and not his own.
But after back-to-back State Championship wins from the Swampcats in 2016-17, it was hard for High School Sports Report to name anyone else as its 2017 South Carolina Independent School Association Coach of the Year.

ALCOLU – Hattie Bell, 81, died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at her home.
Born Nov. 28, 1935, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel Bell and Ethel Green Bell.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Congruity Presbyterian Church in Sumter, with the Rev. Alonzo Washington, pastor, officiating. Pastor Esaw Billie will assist.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3261 Brogdon Road in Alcolu.

Manning High School senior Anderson Land joined Laurence Manning Academy graduates William Williamson and Cale Gamble and East Clarendon High School senior Mikayla Anderson during the Manning Rotary Club’s weekly meeting held May 24 at Manning Restaurant. The four students were the recipients of the club’s annual scholarships, which take into account both academics and work both in their respective schools and in the community.

Margaret Johnson, 93, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her home.
Born May 30, 1923, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Floyd and Annie Mae Williams Floyd.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning, with the Rev. O’Donald Dingle officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home, 637 Frazier St. in Manning.
