Summerton girl alleges man threw her down, put his arm on her throat

A 14-year-old Summerton girl told the Manning Police Department about 11 p.m. May 24 that a 28-year-old man grabbed her by the arm, threw her onto a couch and placed his forearm on her throat during an argument about 7 p.m. the same day at an undisclosed location.
The girl’s father called the police after picking the girl up from the location. The victim told police that a verbal argument led to the suspect getting in her face. Police reported observing small scratches on the girl’s forearm, where she said the suspect grabbed her.

Man allegedly returned stolen item to get $10 gift card

An employee with a store in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway told the Manning Police Department about 11:20 a.m. May 22 that a 48-year-old Manning man entered the store and “selected, concealed and carried away without purchasing items from automotive valued at $10,” before allegedly returning to the parking lot, moving his vehicle to a different location and then returning to the store to return the allegedly stolen item for a gift card refund.
According to reports, the incident happened about 10:57 a.m. the same day, and police were able to view video surveillance.


40 homes without power in Clarendon

Duke Energy and Santee Electric Cooperative report that about 40 homes in Clarendon County are without power as of 9:13 p.m. No estimated time of restoration has been provided.


Lawn mower, chainsaw, other tools stolen from Silver Road home

A man living in the 5700 block of Silver Road in Manning told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Offi e about 9:30 a.m. May 27 that someone broke into the shed behind his home and took a 42-inch riding lawn mower valued at $1,600; a Stihl weed eater valued at $200; two rakes valued at $25; a 14-inch chainsaw valued at $100; a shop vac valued at about $50; and an ax and a shovel valued at about $25. The man said the theft happened sometime between noon April 1 and the time of his complaint.


Hit and run reported on I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a hit and run with injuries at the 127 southbound mile-marker on Interstate 95.


Man allegedly stole deli items, Icy Hot cream

The employee of a store in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway in Manning told the Manning Police Department about 1:30 p.m. May 25 that a 44-year-old Manning man came into the store and took food items from the deli valued at about $5 and a tube of Icy Hot cream valued at about $3.48 without paying for them about 12:40 p.m. that day. According to reports, the man actually walked out of the store between taking the deli items and the cream.


Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Clarendon County

The National Weather Service out of Columbia has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for west central Clarendon County effective through 7:30 p.m. Monday. At 6:41 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles west of St. Matthews, or 10 miles northwest of Brookdale, moving east at 25 mph. The storm will move over I-26 in Calhoun County. The hazard includes 60 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail.


Wreck at 114NB on I-95

Miss Black South Carolina U.S. Ambassador Shana Dukes of Manning, center, stands with Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis and Chief Deputy Hampton Gardner after a visit to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office last week. Dukes will compete for the national title in July at Walt Disney World in Orlando.


District 2 offering free summer meals

Clarendon School District 2 will offer free summer meals Mondays through Thursdays from June 5 to 29 at various locations for children ages 18 and younger.
Manning Primary School will have morning snack from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.;
Manning High School will hold lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This program is being funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service. There are no income or registration requirements. For more information, call (803) 435-4082.


Fishing clubs to host children’s tournament

Poor Boy’s Angler Fishing Club will host a free fishing tournament for children ages 5 to 15 on Saturday at Pack’s Landing, 9890 Pack’s Landing Road in Pinewood.
Weigh in will be at noon. The event includes a lunch with a hot dog, chips and a drink. Ashley Hardee, who is organizing the event, said children will get participation trophies, and they will compete for trophies in bream and bass categories, including weight and largest fish.
Hardee said the children will likely be divided into two groups based on their ages.

Woman claims parasitic infection came from Lake Marion

A Berkeley County woman said last week that she was diagnosed with a parasite after swimming in lakes Marion and Moultrie.
Abigayle Williams told a lowcountry TV station that she grew up fishing, boating and swimming on Lake Marion, but that she is done with the latter. She told the station that she began having pain about Christmas 2016, experiencing “fever, vomiting, faintness and then a lot of abdominal discomfort.”
After nearly six months’ worth of doctors’ visits, she was finally diagnosed May 30.

Alcolu man pleads guilty to bank fraud

An Alcolu man pleaded guilty May 25 in Sumter County General Sessions Court to bank fraud, receiving a sentence of time-served.
Westley Allante Brown of 5696 Brogdon Road in Alcolu was arrested June 22, 2013, in Sumter County and charged with financial transaction card fraud of less than $500 and one count each of financial transaction card fraud of more than $500; bank fraud; and conspiracy.
Deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office alleged that Brown, between June 19 and the date of his arrest, reportedly used a victim’s credit card to pump gas at several Sumter gas stations in … Read the rest
