The S.C. Highway Patrol has released more information on a fatal wreck that happened about 5:50 p.m. Friday outside of Paxville, although the Clarendon County Coroner's Office cannot yet release a name of the deceased individual. Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said there were two vehicles involved, one of which, a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer pulling another trailer was disabled on the roadside at the time of the wreck. Southern said the disabled vehicle was partly blocking a portion of the roadway and a man driving a 2011 Chrysler 300 swerved while traveling south on U.S. 15 near McLeod Road to avoid hitting the disabled truck. However, swerving caused the vehicle to overcorrect, and the driver ended up hitting the trailer on the back of the tractor-trailer truck. Both the driver and a front-seat passenger received injuries, with the driver transported to McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning and the front-seat passenger transported by EMS to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. The back seat passenger, an unidentified woman, died from injuries at the scene, Southern said. All of those involved in the wreck were wearing seatbelts.
