The vacation blues

Posted
Last week, at 4:31 p.m. Monday, I was sitting in a beach chair with my feet mashed ever so gently in the sand as the sun baked my face, and I sipped on a cold Natural Light. It's a far contrast from this Monday, as at 4:32 p.m., I sat in my office in my sundress and snacked on bubble gum that I took from Bobby's desk, as I so often do. Truth be told, I am happy in either place. I once read a saying, "Create a life that you do not need a vacation from," and I believe that this is very true. It doesn't mean everything is perfect, nor does it mean that one would never want to take a vacation again. I think, for me, it just means that one should be able to find happiness in your daily life. You should find enough happiness that you aren’t always concentrating on being somewhere else or doing something else to find the happiness. While on vacation my Uncle Charles kept reminding the "younger" folks, yes, myself included, that attitude is everything. He means in every situation. He is right, and I hope to instill that knowledge in my children. Every situation can be looked at one of two ways. Sure, coming home from a week in virtual paradise can be a little sad, but it can also be joyful. I was ready to see my four fur babies and sleep in my own bed. I had very much missed my staff and my newspaper. I missed my house and life in Manning in general. While I was really excited to go on vacation and I did enjoy myself and the time with my family. I am genuinely really excited to be home and back at work and have my kids back to their normal daily activities. “Create a life that you do not need a vacation from.” Pretty wise words, if I do say so myself.
