SANTEE - Evelyn Nix Pugh, 88, beloved wife of Leslie L. Pugh Jr., died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Magnolias of Santee.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Elloree United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Barry A. Allen presiding. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Born Dec. 18, 1928, at home in Daytona Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Thomas Nix and Ruby Yarborough Nix. She was a member of the Elloree United Methodist Church and a former member of the Santee Cooper Country Club Ladies Golf Association. In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted her husband in furniture manufacturer sales representation for decades, developing relationships with furniture retailers and salespeople across South Carolina and beyond. She and her family were some of the original residents of the Santee Cooper Country Club.

She was an avid golfer and head scorekeeper for countless golf tournaments held in the Santee area for many years. Always supporting her children in their interests, she served as a Girl Scout Leader and assistant high school tennis coach. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she nurtured strong bonds with family friends and treated them as her own.

Survivors besides her husband of 65 years of Santee include her daughters, Lynda Pugh Lee of Summerton and Lesley Pugh (Kenneth) Dykes of Manning; her grandchildren, Kate Lee (Drew) Shivley of Grand Prairie, Texas, Lyle H. (Allison) Lee of Columbia and Robert Earl Dykes of Manning; three great-grandchildren; and a special “borrowed” daughter, Scherrie Parks Cogdill of Pinewood.

Memorials may be made to the Elloree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 681, Elloree, SC 29047.
