BRISTOL, Conn. - Shirley Atkinson Hogan, 80, of Bristol, and formerly of Terryville, Connecticut, died peacefully in the early morning hours Friday, June 9, 2017, with her loved ones.

Born June 6, 1937, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Marie Atkinson. She was the widow of Tom Hogan, who died in 1999.

She attended Sherwood School in Lynchburg and graduated from Sumter Business College with an associate's degree in business. She worked at several places, including owning her own business teaching sewing, which she loved dearly.

She retired from United Way in Bristol. She raised five children and adored her grandchildren.

Sewing and craftwork were her passion for years. They paled in comparison only to Elvis Presley.

She loved her second family at Countryside Manor in Bristol, who took great care of her for the last few years.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda; her loving husband, Tom; and her angel daughter, Brenda.

Survivors include two sisters, Judy Lee and Diane Graham; four sons, Russell Murdock and his wife, Wendy, James Murdock Jr. and his wife, Gail, Gary Murdock and his wife, Terry, and Mark Murdock and his wife, Louise; a son-in-law, Rob Luther; her grandchildren, Katie, Stephen, Peter, Roy, Heather, Christina, Mae, Danielle and Jeremy; and a great-grandchild, Keith.

Gravesides services were held Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Hillside Cemetery in Terryville. Visitation was held prior to services at Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St. in Terryville.
