Manning Mayor Julia Nelson has been appointed to the Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments Board of Directors for the 2017-18 fiscal year.

Nelson has been elected to serve as second vice-chair for the organization beginning July 1.

"I congratulate the newly appointed officers, and I am very excited about working with them and our uniquely positioned professional organization to bring leaders together in the spirit of cooperation to further improve the quality of life for all (residents) in our four-county region," said COG Executive Director Dr. Michael Mikota.

Joining Nelson on the board are Lee County Council Chairman Travis Windham, who will serve as board chairman; Sumter County Councilwoman Vivian McGhaney, who will serve as first vice-chair; and Sumter County board at-large member Jim Campbell, who will serve as secretary-treasurer.

The Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments serves Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties, advocating a regional vision through identification of opportunities, effective courses of action and appropriate resources essential to enable local governments to enhance the quality of life for their residents.
