A 39-year-old Manning man was arrested by the Manning Police Department about 9:40 p.m. June 2 after being suspected of driving under the influence. Jimmy Weeks Jr. of 1135 Rev. J.W. Carter Road in Manning was charged with driving under the influence, second or subsequent offense; open container; and driving a vehicle with a suspended license plate after a traffic stop about 8:54 p.m. June 2. According to reports from the Manning Police Department, police stopped Weeks after observing him making a wide right turn into the oncoming lane of traffic onto South Church Street from Hospital Street. Police observed a rear passenger in the vehicle "moving around a lot as if to conceal something." During the stop, police reported being "immediately overwhelmed by the odor of an alcoholic beverage." Police also observed that the rear floorboard of the vehicle was wet and had ice in it. Weeks allegedly told police he did not have a driver's license. Police reported that as the passenger's door opened, an open container of beer fell onto the ground. Police alleged that Weeks was "grossly intoxicated," according to reports, and had "slurred speech." Police found two open containers of beer and one open container of vodka in the vehicle. Weeks allegedly refused a breathalyzer test at the Clarendon County Detention Center. According to the Clarendon County Public Index, Weeks has previously been charged with driving under the influence, second or subsequent offense, at least twice in Clarendon County, in 2014 and 2016.
