One of the Bank of Clarendon's most senior representatives joined more than 1,000 community bankers from throughout the country to attend the Independent Community Bankers of America Policy Summit. President J. Barry Ham attended the event, which was held recently in Washington, D.C. In a release, he said the summit offered bankers a chance to gain increased awareness of pending legislation affecting the banking industry. During the summit, Ham was among several bankers invited to attend a meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice-president Mike Pence at the White House. "The highlight of the trip was an invitation to meet with the vice president and the president at the White House," Ham said. "There were 100 bankers who participated in the visit in the Kennedy Garden." He said that Trump and Pence discussed their plans to roll back "overreaching and burdensome regulation to promote business investment and job growth." Ham said the trip did not involve sightseeing but included a chance to talk to elected officials about legislation they support. "We called on effective congressmen and senators to make our opinions known on pending legislation," he said. Ham said he was deeply honored to be invited. "The Bank of Clarendon is proud to have been given the opportunity to advocate on behalf of our industry so we can continue to serve our community and be a powerful job creator and economic engine right here in our markets," he said. The summit featured meetings with policymakers, remarks from speakers, such as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, and the first ICBA Future of Banking Symposium, which offered insights into the future of the rapidly changing community banking industry. Attendees at the meeting also included community bankers from ICBA's executive committee, its Board of Directors, its Federal Delegate Board and its policy committees.
