Alcolu man pleads guilty to bank fraud

An Alcolu man pleaded guilty May 25 in Sumter County General Sessions Court to bank fraud, receiving a sentence of time-served. Westley Allante Brown of 5696 Brogdon Road in Alcolu was arrested June 22, 2013, in Sumter County and charged with financial transaction card fraud of less than $500 and one count each of financial transaction card fraud of more than $500; bank fraud; and conspiracy. Deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office alleged that Brown, between June 19 and the date of his arrest, reportedly used a victim's credit card to pump gas at several Sumter gas stations in exchange for money, running up a total charge of $11,952. Likewise, they reported that the suspect allegedly got cash for letting individuals use a credit card to get gas. According to the Sumter County Public Court Index, Brown served seven days at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after his arrest. He was sentenced after his plea by Circuit Court Judge Frank R. Addy Jr.
