East Clarendon High School senior Mikayla Anderson was one of four recipients May 24 of a scholarship presented by the Manning Rotary Club at its regular weekly meeting at Manning Restaurant.
The daughter of Rotary President Susan Anderson and Mike Anderson, both of Turbeville, and granddaughter of Rotarian Annelle Powell, she plans to finish her nursing degree at Central Carolina Technical College, where she has been taking classes under a dual-enrollment program during her high school career.
She plans to attend Francis Marion University to earn her bachelor's degree in nursing. She hopes to work in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. She is currently employed with Professional Nurses Care in Manning and has clients in the northern end of Clarendon County.
At East Clarendon High School, she was a member of the Lady Wolverines' varsity softball team from eighth through 12th grades, bringing home five Regional Championships, four District Championships, two Lower State Championships and two State Championships for the team. She also won four Region Championships as a member of the Lady Wolverines' varsity volleyball team.
She was named to the 2017 All-Star North-South Softball Team, and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Technical Honor Society and Turbeville Southern Methodist Church. She has also served as a volunteer with the Manning Rotary Club and A Second Chance Animal Shelter of Clarendon County.
