Manning woman receives 5 years' probation for string of vehicle break-ins

An 18-year-old woman charged with seven counts of breaking into a motor vehicle in 2016 will serve five years' probation after pleading guilty in Clarendon County General Sessions Court. Lauren D. Lewis Hilton of 402 Drayton St. in Manning pleaded guilty May 11 to seven counts of larceny, breaking into motor vehicles or tanks and pumps where fuel and lubricants are stored, receiving concurrent sentences of four years in prison, suspended to five years' probation from 3rd Circuit Judge George McFadden Jr. Hilton was charged in September 2016, along with two 16-year-old juvenile males, for what police said was her role in the break-ins of several vehicles between June 24 and Aug. 4 of that year. Inv. Rick Elms said in 2016 that detectives were able to get information on where some of the victims’ items may have been hidden at a home in Clarendon County. After obtaining consent to search, police found items belonging to the victims at the home. According to reports, Hilton and the juveniles were involved in the following incidents: A 70-year-old woman working in the first block of Pinestraw Lane in Manning between 11 p.m. July 20 and 3 a.m. July 21 told police about 5 a.m. July 21 that someone entered her vehicle at the home on Pinestraw Lane and took her purse, which contained her debit card, a SAFE Federal Credit Union card, a food stamp card, a Medicaid card, an insurance card and a driver’s license. A 53-year-old woman living in the 300 block of Brockingston Street in Manning told police that someone entered her vehicle between 9 p.m. July 23 and 6 a.m. July 254 and took her black Ruger carry case, which contained a loaded black .380-caliber Ruger with clip valued at $320 along with her concealed weapons permit. A 29-year-old woman living in the first block of South Meadow Drive in Manning told police that someone broke into her vehicle between 11:30 p.m. July 25 and 1:10 p.m. July 26, taking her Vera Bradley pocket book, $10 cash, a Bank of Clarendon debit card, a S.C. driver’s license and a Nintendo DS gaming system valued at $200. Sometime between 8 a.m. June 24 and 8 a.m. Aug. 4, the suspects are alleged to have broken into the vehicle of a 73-year-old woman living on Pickwood Drive in Manning, taking several personal papers, including a kidney donor card, a Notary Public card and a dental benefits card. Sometime between 8 a.m. June 24 and 8 a.m. Aug. 4, the suspects are alleged to have entered the vehicle of a 53-year-old man living in the 200 block of Rhame Street, taking a black leather satchel with several car keys and various paperwork. Sometime between 8 a.m. June 24 and 8 a.m. Aug. 4, the suspects are alleged to have entered the vehicle of a 30-year-old woman living in the 300 block of North Meadow Drive in Manning, taking a green emerald wallet and other items valued at $275. A 42-year-old woman living in the 500 block of Woodland Drive in Manning told police that someone broke into her vehicle about 5 a.m. Aug. 3 and took two purses, $20 in cash, an Edward Jones debit card, two Mastercards, a Gap card, a check book, car keys and her house key. As the juveniles' cases were handled in juvenile court, no disposition is available for their cases. South Carolina does not release information for defendants 16 and younger at the time of their offenses.
