One of McLeod Health Clarendon's certified nursing assistants was recognized last week for "going above and beyond the service and care of all patients, while personifying the true faithfulness to their profession," said Chief Nursing Officer Kim Jolly.

Geraldine Singletary was recognized as the 2017 Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year during a luncheon at the hospital to celebrate National Nurses Week, which was recognized nationally from May 8-12 in appreciation for nursing teams' compassion, dedication and service. National Nurses Week is held each year during the week in which the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession, is celebrated. That day is May 12.

Jolly said that, annually, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. In recognition of the impact safety and awareness nursing practice has on patient outcomes and the quality of care, 2017 was designated as "Nursing: The Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit."

"It's all about celebrating nurses who lead the charge for health and wellness," said Jolly.

She noted that all staff nurses were asked to nominate a fellow nurse who offers above and beyond service and care of all patients, while personifying true faithfulness to the profession.

“Nurses and nursing staff are an essential part of the healthcare team, and play a vital role in providing an excellent patient care experience during their hospital visit”, said Jolly. “(Singletary) truly exemplifies excelence in healthcare through the compassionate care (she) provides to each and every patient being cared for."
