J.C. Amos Sr.

J.C. Amos Sr., son of the late Johnnie and Josephine Amos, died Monday, May 8, 2017.

He was born Jan. 22, 1934.

He attended the segregated school system of Clarendon County. He was united in marriage to the late Sallie Scott Amos. During this union, the couple were successful owners of the Amos Store, Amos Florist and Green House.

At an early age, J.C. accepted Christ as his personal savior. He became a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the trustee board.

Survivors include three children, Matthew Amos of Sumter, J.C. (Marie) Amos Jr. of Columbia and Lou Ada (Herbert) Nelson of Sumter; three grandchildren, Todd Amos and Sentell Amos, both of Sumter, and April (Jean) Fortin of Sanford, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Daniel L. Fortin and Deon Amos; a brother, James Amos of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Ola Mae Amos of Orlando, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Byrd Scott and Tyrone Scott, both of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, in the chapel of Sumter Funeral Service Inc., with Pastor Willie A. Wright Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leroy Blanding.

The funeral procession will leave 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the home of his daughter, Lou Ada Nelson, 680 Bowen Drive in Sumter.
