John Ralph Connelly, 88, husband of Mildred L. “Millie” Connelly, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Medford, Long Island, New York, he was a son of the late Joseph Patrick Connelly and Mary Margaret Hart Connelly. He was a retired plumbing supervisor with the Brookhaven National Laboratories. He was a life member of the Medford Fire Department, a member of the Medford Lions Club for 35 years and the treasurer of Happy Seniors Golf Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors besides his wife of 40 years include a son, Brian Connelly (Nancy) of Portland, Maine; two granddaughters, Megan Connelly Davis (Andrew) and Amanda Connelly; a great grandson, Liam Keith Connelly Davis; two step daughters, Susan Staszak of Fairfax City, Virginia, and Jan M. Collinson of Austin, Texas; two step-grandsons, Michael Staszak and Cory Collinson; a step-granddaughter, Cassandra Payne; a brother, Edward Connelly of Medford, Long Island; and a sister, Elizabeth Mulderig of Medford, Long Island.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin Connelly (John’s twin brother) and Joseph Connelly Jr.; and two sisters, Eleanor Petrow and Marion Vaughn.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Phelps officiating.
