Krista Dione Smoak, 45, passed away peacefully Monday, May 1, 2017, at her sister's home after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 16, 1972, in Charleston, she was a daughter of LaTrelle Helmuth and Charles Smoak Jr. Krista graduated from Goose Creek High School in 1990. She attended Trident Technical College, where she studied Criminal Justice. Krista graduated with honors from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. She worked as a security anddetention officer in several South Carolina facilities until she became ill in 2015. Krista enjoyed playing pool, country music, traveling and being outdoors.
Spending time with her niece and nephews was what she enjoyed the most. She lived life to the fullest and always had a smile on her face. To know Krista was to love her. She valued her friendships and family so much, especially during this journey. She showed strength through it all and passed away with no regrets in her life. Throughout her sickness, Krista confirmed her faith in the Lord. She was an inspiration to those around her and brought unity amongst her family, friends and community.
Survivors besides her mother of Manning and her father of Goose Creek include two siblings, Celeste Wegner (Shawn) and Jay Smoak, both of Manning; two nephews, Samuel and Matthew Wegner, both of Manning; and a niece, Alexsis Wegner of Manning. Krista was blessed with several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Shawn MacKenzie Wegner; her grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Allan Glass officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Anderson Church Cemetery in Manassas, Georgia.
