SUMMERTON - Edith Faye Meadows Smith, 88, widow of Emory Howard Smith, died Monday, May 1, 2017, at her home.

Born Jan. 4, 1929, in Scott Depot, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Earl Franklin Meadows Sr. and Mamie Lee Chandler Meadows. She was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, the Red Hat Society and a former member of TOPS. She was known as the “Banana Lady” at Lake Marion Nursing Facility, which she visited every week and took bananas until her health failed.

Survivors include two sons, George E. "Eddie" Smith of Havre de Grace, Maryland, and Craig A. Smith (Shirley) of Hookerton, North Carolina; a daughter, Nancy Lee Cave of Summerton; two brothers, Clifton L. "Tony" Meadows (Linda) of Pearisburg, Virginia, and Earl Franklin Meadows Jr. (Melissa) of Jacksonville, Florida; three sisters, Carolyn J. Hamill (Charles) of Inwood, West Virginia, Shirley A. McDaniel (Leonard) of Narrows, Virginia and Judy Dixon of Wytheville, Virginia; five grandchildren, Alan Cave, Ken Cave, Jason Poole, Jennifer Anderson and Janice Smith; 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor Hayes (Matt), Kasey Cave, Angelica Cave, Landon Cave, Gracie Cave, Sophie Cave, Penelope Cave, Cody Bishop, Christopher Anderson, Sebastian Anderson, Dylan Anderson and Elexis Smith; and a great-great-grandson, Cody Bishop Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Joyce Meadows Altizer.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, with the Rev. Esta Gilley officiating.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will include the men of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia.
