Lewis Brice to perform at Puddin’ Swamp Festival

Nashville recording artist Lewis Brice, a Sumter native, will be the featured entertainment for the second night of the Puddin’ Swamp Festival, performing at 8 p.m. April 7 on the main stage on Village Square. Visitors are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and dancing shoes.


Lake Wind Advisory issued for Clarendon County

The National Weather Service out of Columbia has issued a Lake Wind Advisory in effect from noon today through 4 a.m. Tuesday. Southeast to south winds 15 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots, this afternoon. Southwest winds 15 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots tonight. Higher gusts near thunderstorms.

McMaster names next chairman of state Board of Economic Advisors

Gov. Henry McMaster announced Tuesday that Edward Grimball will be the next Chairman of the South Carolina Board of Economic Advisors.
The BEA is responsible for overseeing the operations of the South Carolina Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office, which provides fiscal and statistical analysis, services, and reports for the governor, General Assembly, state and local government entities and the private sector.
Grimball, 72, is a resident of Edisto Island.

Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Graduation application deadline today for CCTC students

Graduation applications for May and August graduates are due by April 3. The application can be submitted online through myCCTC or a paper copy can be downloaded from the Forms Library on www.cctech.edu and turned in to the Student Records Office. Sixteen contestants vied Saturday night for the title of Clarendon County Cover Girl in the 1st such pageant held by Clarendon Habitat for Humanity. Judge James Dingle was the ultimate “winner,” with Ceth Land being named 1st runner-up.


Office of Health and Nutrition looking for Summer Food Program sponsors

The state Department of Education’s Office of Health and Nutrition is seeking sponsors for Summer Food Service programs in Clarendon and 26 other South Carolina counties.
“(This) is an excellent opportunity for local government agencies, school districts, faith-based and private non-profit organizations to provide summer meals to children by becoming a sponsor for our Summer Food Service Program,” states a release from the Office of Health and Nutrition.
