Guns, borrowing among bills up for debate ahead of deadline

Proposals to borrow nearly $500 million for statewide repairs and allow guns to be openly carried without a permit are among those facing the Legislature’s crossover deadline.
The South Carolina House will be busy this week as Republicans who control the chamber try to push bills over to the Senate.
Bills not advanced from one chamber to the other by Friday have little chance of becoming law this year. That’s because they’ll require a two-thirds vote to even be considered by the other chamber for the session scheduled to end next month.

You can find out where your ancestors came from and what kind of traits you have. By traits, the report should tell you what kind of food you would eat and whether or not you can run fast. CDC to hold Gigantic Yard Sale, iPad drawing

The Clarendon County Community Development Corporation will hold a gigantic yard sale and iPad drawing from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 next to the Clarendon County Council on Aging on South Church Street. Participants in the drawing do not have to be present to win. There will be men, women and children’s clothes, housewares and other items at the yard sale. CCFD responding to branch falling on power pole

The Clarendon County Fire Department is currently responding to a report of a branch falling on a power pole and line in the area of Home Branch Road and Paxville Highway. Reports indicate the line is arcing.

Tree blocking roadway at 130SB on I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a tree in the roadway at the 130 southbound mile-marker on Interstate 95 in Clarendon County. According to reports, that portion of the interstate is blocked.

The National Weather Service out of Columbia has issued a Tornado Watch effective until 9 p.m. Monday for Clarendon County and surrounding areas in the midlands. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to form.

Clarendon 1 cancels after-school events

Clarendon School District 1 has canceled all after-school activities due to possible inclement weather. Superintendent Dr. Rose Wilder said the Board of Trustees will still hold its regular meeting.
