Pinewood man faces drugs, weapons charges after traffic stop

Kevin Lamont Slater, 36, of 1488 Guess road in Pinewood, was arrested about 2:16 a.m. April 23 and charged with possession of cocaine; possession of marijuana, second offense; and unlawful carrying of a pistol. According to reports from the Manning Police Department, police stopped Slater in the area of West Huggins Street and Alfred Henry Drive after observing Slater drive left of center several times in his Buick. As Slater exited the vehicle, when asked by police, he placed a rolled up $1 bill on the vehicle, and police found that it contained a "powder substance believed to be cocaine." Inside the vehicle, police found a Crown Royal bag with a jar containing a clear plastic bag of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana. Police also found a .38 Smith and Wesson fully-loaded revolver.
