Severe Weather Alert issued for Clarendon County

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert for Clarendon County effective through 7:30 p.m. According to reports, a strong thunderstorm could affect south central Clarendon and east central Orangeburg counties. At 6:38 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was located near eastern Lake Marion, or 16 miles south of Manning, moving west at 5 mph. Winds gusts of up to 50 mph and half-inch hail are possible with this storm. If you are on or near Lake Marion, you are advised to get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to a safe shelter now Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
