Clarendon County farmer David Tindal won the opportunity to direct a $2,500 donation from the America's Farmers Grow Communities program to Clarendon Hall.

Sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, the America's Farmers Grow Communities program "makes a positive impact in farm communities by partnering with farmers to support the causes that are important to them in their communities," said Monsanto Fund President Al Mitchell. "Each year, farmers enter for a chance to win a $2,500 donation that they direct to a local non-profit."

Clarendon Hall Headmaster Phil Rizzo said the school will use the funds to purchase textbooks for implementing new match curricula in fifth through seventh grades at the school, and for the purchase of audio-visual equipment for classrooms. In addition, the school will donate $250 to St. Mary's Catholic Church's food pantry, which aids families in the Summerton area.

"Being in the heart of an agricultural area, we as a school have a great respect for farmers," Rizzo said. "Obtaining this donation by Mr. Tindal, a graduate of Clarendon Hall, demonstrates that farmers help their communities in many ways, and we truly appreciate his effort to help Clarendon Hall."

Overall, the America's Farmers Grow Communities program will provide more than $3 million in financial support to non-profits in 2017 throughout the United States. Since 2010, the program has given more than $26 million to more than 8,000 non-profits across rural America.

"Farmers are truly committed to this program because they see the difference the donations makes in their community," said Mitchell.
