Scott announces 45 SC students' nominations to Military Service Academies

U.S. Senator Tim Scott announced last week the nominations of 45 South Carolina students to the United States Military Service Academies for the class of 2021, including the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. In advance of this round of nominations, staff from Scott’s state offices hosted 12 informational sessions across the state. “It is such an honor and privilege to nominate some of our state’s future leaders to our country’s military service academies,” Scott said. “For me, this is one of the best parts of my job. Each year, I look forward to taking the opportunity to review hundreds of applications from young people who have the passion and willingness to serve our country. However, final admission is determined by the respective academy. To be considered for a nomination from Scott, students were required to submit an application, SAT/ACT scores, high school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. Each candidate was then interviewed by community and business leaders and distinguished members of the military, including many alumni of one of the service academies.
