CDC to hold community forum

The Clarendon County Community Development Corporation will hold a free community forum from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 8 at the Council on Aging, 206 S. Church St. "The purpose of the forum is to inform the community, businesses and other organizations about what the Clarendon County CDC has accomplished over the years and to network with other organizations that may share similar visions and missions of the Clarendon County CDC, which involve improving the lives of all of our residents," said Paulette King. The CDC serves Clarendon, Lee and Sumter counties, she said. "The Clarendon County CDC has received numerous grants and awards within the past few years," King said. These include from the state Housing Authority for emergency home repairs and owner-occupied rehabilitation; the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Business and Entrepreneurship Grant which helps people start their own micro-businesses; the Central Carolina Community Foundation for youth programs and summer camps; the Sisters of Charity Foundation to help impoverished residents with food, clothing and shelter; and the South Carolina Association of Community Development. "All community and business leaders, community organizations, homeowners, persons who may need mortgage assistance from South Carolina Help, or persons who may need home repairs are invited and encouraged to attend this very important forum," King said. She noted that individuals from the district and state levels will be in attendance to answer any questions concerning housing needs and other related issues. For more information, or if you are part of an organization that would like to be a part of the forum panel, call Housing Coordinator Pamela Clavon-Brunson at (803) 435-6639. Light refreshments will be available.
