Hugh Thomas “Tom” Hodge Sr., 83, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter.

Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Manning, he was a son of the late Lou Allen Hodge and Carrie DuBose Hodge. He was a member of Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church and he attended New Start Community Church of the Nazarene. He was affectionately known as the “greatest fisherman” by his family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Juan H. Hodge of Manning; three daughters, Lydia Jackson (Murray), Rose Granillo (Vincent) and Maggie Ann Salley, all of Manning; a brother, Howard Hodge of Manning; two sisters, Carrie Lee Mitchum of Manning and Nellie Hodge of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Lynn Cowart, Murray Jackson IV, Ashley Jackson, Kristian Jackson, Clarence B. Tisdale II, Elizabeth Milam, Kaitlyn Salley and Henry Salley IV; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Thomas Hodge Jr.; and a great-grandson, Austin Tisdale.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include David Milam, Vincent Granillo, Murray Jackson III, Clarence B. Tisdale, Sr., Clarence B. Tisdale II and Jamie Player.

Visitation will be an hour prior to services at the funeral home.
