The National Weather Service out of Columbia has issued a Fire Danger Statement in effect through 6 p.m. today for Clarendon County and surrounding areas. A cold front will cross the area this afternoon with winds becoming strong and gusty. Sustained winds by midday will be between 15 and 20 mph with gusts over 25 mph through the afternoon hours. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to lower 80s. Drier air moving into the region will result in relative humidity values falling between 20 and 25 percent. While fuels will be marginal, the combination of strong winds and low relative humidity will result in increased fire danger. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn on Saturday. If you do burn ... you are advised to use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions
