A local banker and civic leader will be recognized this spring with one of the highest honors given by his alma mater. The Darla Moore School of Business will present William O. Buyck is a 1958 graduate of the University of South Carolina and currently serves as the chairman of the Bank of Clarendon Board of Directors. Currently, he advises the chief executive officer, the president, the chief financial officer and other executives on day-to-day financial matters while serving as chairman of the board. He was previously chief executive officer for the bank from 1979 to 2012. Buyck also serves on the Clarendon County Development Board, where he has served as chairman for three terms. He has received several prestigious awards at the state level, including the Order of the Palmetto and the South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development, both awarded by the state governor. He has been a lifelong Gamecock and recently endowed the Frances Reedy Buyck Memorial Fellowship at the Darla Moore School of Business in memory of his wife, Frances Reedy Buyck, who was the first female graduate of the school’s master's in business administration program. He has two children and five grandchildren.
