A 59-year-old Summerton man was charged about 9:14 a.m. Jan. 8 with shoplifting after allegedly walking up to a hot food bar at a store on Sunset Drive, eating food and not paying for it. According to reports from the Manning Police Department, Richard Brailsford Jr. of 236 Main St. in Summerton allegedly walked behind the bar, took a sausage link and began to eat it, resulting in the store having to dispose of the remaining sausage on the hot bar. Employees then told the alleged suspect several times that he had to leave, with him refusing each time. The suspect allegedly told employees that he wasn’t going to leave until he was finished eating breakfast, according to reports. The suspect then allegedly threatened to beat up one employee, after which the store manager pinned him to the floor to await officers’ arrival. Brailsford was transported to the Clarendon County Detention Center, where he was charged with assault and shoplifting.
