Nearly three years after closing, the Turbeville Children’s Home is going strong once again, although under new ownership.
Founded by the South Carolina Free Will Baptist Association in 1949, the home is now owned by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, which purchased the home in October 2015. I think as a mom it’s hard to put ourselves first in anything. And if we try, there is always that little voice telling us it’s frivolous or selfish when, actually, it’s probably a needed break. Twelve Clarendon County jurors took about two hours July 15 to decide the extent of a 40-year-old Sumter man’s involvement in the death of a 21-year-old Sumter woman on Fourth of July weekend in 2014.
Jurors found Chad Morris not guilty of reckless homicide by operation of a watercraft, guilty of the lesser-included offense of negligent operation of a watercraft and guilty of failure to render assistance where death results.

Deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office made the traffic stop of a lifetime in April, confiscating more than $800,000 in bundled cash investigators believe has been used in the drug trade.
The Interstate Crime Enforcement Team initially stopped a vehicle with New York license plates April 6 for driving below the posted speed limit in the fast lane of Interstate 95.
The deputies said they noticed immediate signs of criminal activity.

SCV to meet Jan. 10, speaker to discuss Great Charleston Fire of 1861

The Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Clarendon County Council on Aging, 206 S. Church St. in Manning. Grant Mishoe will give a presentation on the Great Charleston Fire of 1861. The meeting is open to all interested persons, and this may be of special interest to local city and county firefighters, organizers believe.
