A look back: Manning man charged with Sumter murder

A 30-year-old Manning man turned himself into Clarendon County Sheriff’s deputies early July 8 after being implicated in a Sumter shooting from the night before. The Sumter Police Department charged Travis McConico with murder and is investigating an overnight shooting in which one man died and another was injured. He was denied bond. Officers were dispatched to the 362 Club on Manning Avenue in Sumter about 11:45 p.m. July 7 after a call came in of shots fired at the location. One victim, William Peterson, was transported by EMS to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. A second victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the leg and was treated at Palmetto Health Tuomey for non-life threatening injuries. Details of the shootings remain under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700.
