RICHBURG - A local clay shooting team posted the highest score of 19 squads at the recent South Carolina Shooting Foundation opening event at Rocky Creek Sporting Clays in Richburg.

More than 530 youth shooters, along with their family and friends enjoyed a day of sporting clays, according to Coach Jimmy Lee.

The Featherhorn Farm Young Guns team - Lizzie Ardis, Mary Claire Lee and Andi Grae Wingate - posted the high score of 261. Joining them as an alternate shooter was Bailey Moore, who broke 74 out of 100 targets. Mary Claire Lee also posted the high score of 91 for the Ladies High Overall Award in the same division.

Three-member squads traveled around a course of 10 to 12 stations, shooting at a total of 100 clay targets. These squads are all female, all male or a combination, Lee said.

"Scores are then totaled for awards," he said. "For the first time in the foundation's history, an all-female team won the first-place overall in the Intermediate Advanced Division, while also earning first place in Intermediate Advanced Ladies Division."

The Featherhorn Young Guns also had success in the Rookie and Junior Varsity divisions. The Rookie team of Graham Lee, Braxten Wilson and Grayson Mahn achieved a score of 205 and a second-place finish.

In the junior varsity division, Evan Ardis, Hunter Thompson and Justin Lowder achieved a score of 258 with a third-place finish.
