Pet of the Day: Koda

Koda is a 6-month-old white and grey husky mix who weighs about 40 pounds. He loves the company of others and loves to play with toys. He gets along with other dogs, and would make a wonderful family dog for any age. He is currently up to date on vaccines and has been neutered. Come see him at A Second Chance Animal Shelter on Alex Harvin Highway in Manning from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Family, friends remember fallen deputy

A fallen deputy’s family came together Friday at both his grave site and memorial to honor his memory.
The family of Holmes Smith Sr. was joined by deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Manning Police Department on Friday morning. The dark clouds in the sky matched the somber mood as law enforcement officers gathered on U.S. 521 where Cub Scouts placed a cross in 2015 celebrated the life of their fallen brother.
