Charles William Holland, 81, husband of Pauline Geneva Holland, of Andrews, North Carolina, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at his home.
Born and raised in Andrews, he was a son of the late Willard McClain and Winnie Ellen Painter Holland. Charles was retired from the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft electronics repairman. After retiring from the military, he worked for the U.S. Post Office as a postmaster. He helped with the Vista Program in Andrews and volunteered for H&R Block. Charles enjoyed golfing. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at East Sumter Pentecostal Holiness Church in Sumter and at the Beaver Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Andrews.
Survivors besides his wife of 58.5 years include two sons, Thomas William Holland of Sumter and Dean Lloyd Holland of Andrews; a daughter, Arlene Holland Wilkes of Andrews; two sisters, Maxine Holland Crawford and Margaret Ann Holand Stiles, both of Andrews; a sister-in-law, Myrtice Holland of Andrews; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, was preceded in death by an infant son, David McClain Holland; a brother, Jim Holland; and two brothers-in-law, Don Crawford and William Stiles.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. The Rev. Venning Long officiated. Burial was held in the Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews, with military honors conducted by the North Carolina National Guard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10222, the Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post No. 96 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 73 and American Legion Post No. 532 of Hayesville and VFW Post No. 6812 Hayesville and VFW Post No. 7620 Andrews.
Pallbearers included Marcus Welch, Jamie Brown, Lloyd Holland, Brandon Holland, John Holland and David Holland.
The family received friends from Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.
