David Montague Jacobs, 71, husband of Carmela Scaffidi “Candy” Jacobs, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1945, in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Louis Terrell Jacobs and Lois McGill Gregg Jacobs. David attended Kingstree High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he played the drums in the Bugle Corps. David taught auto mechanics at the F.E. DuBose Career Center for 27 years. He was the secretary of Wee Tee Hunting Club. David loved the outdoors and was an advocate for the land, especially land in Williamsburg County. He considered the Santee River to be his second home. He was passionate about ensuring that the natural resources we have today are here for future generations. David was a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Terry (Dana) Jacobs of Effingham and Angelo (Dawn) Jacobs of Lane; sister, Banna Lou Jacobs (Michael) Leeson of Florence; and six grandchildren, Michael, Morgan, Kaylyn, Sydney, Carmela and Sophia.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Montague Jacobs II.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, in Kingstree Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
