Voter Registration now open for absentee ballots

The Clarendon County Voter Registration Office, 411 Sunset Drive in Manning, is now open for absentee voting. Hour are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
To vote absentee, you must be a registered voter and meet one of the following criteria:
Students, their spouses and dependents residing with them;
Members of the Armed Forces, Merchant Marines, Red Cross, USO, government employees, their spouses and dependents residing with them;
Overseas citizens;
For reasons of employment will not be able to vote on election day;
Physically disabled persons;
Persons on vacation;
Persons age 65 or older;

Garrett: Rudeness of one employee shouldn’t be blamed on restaurant

Sheriff Randy Garrett said he’s pleased with the resolution for a situation Tuesday involving three of his deputies, who were allegedly told by a former Sumter restaurant assistant manager that “she had a mind not to serve them” and she “didn’t like cops.”
Garrett said the deputies – members of his Interstate Crime Enforcement team – frequent the restaurant, which is located off Exit 135 on Interstate 95 near the Sumter-Clarendon line, due to its proximity to their patrol area.

The top students of the Automotive 1 class at the F.E. DuBose Career Center were recognized this week, and included R.J. Graham, Anders Land, Ethan Miles, Brice Fenters and Josh Baker. Land is a student at Manning High School, while Graham, Miles, Fenters and Baker are all East Clarendon High School students.

I sat down to watch the debate last Wednesday and I was gripped by an answer Hillary Clinton gave. I know she was “horrified” that Trump may not accept the election results and that is all the media will talk about. However, I was “horrified” by something greater as Mrs. Clinton talked about abortion and her stance that a baby in the womb has no rights. I beg to differ. That baby has a right to life! District 5 Councilman Dukes finally sworn-in

District 5 finally has representation on Manning City Council.
Two-and-a-half years after the death of former Councilman Gregory Witherspoon, local businessman Julius Dukes Jr. was sworn in Monday night to the seat, more than two years after winning a special runoff against opponent Gloria Frierson.
